Confused?

Digital Audio Workstation

In basic terms

A PC/Mac..which you use to record

So i was wondering

What Spec PC/Mac do people use here to record

I'll go first

Dual core 2x3ghz processor (AMD)
4gb Ram
E-MU0404 soundcard

I would put my graphics card and all that down but its irrelevent for audio recording

Well I don't have a DAW at the moment, but if I did, it would be.....

Apple Imac 24" 2gb RAM
Digidesign MBOX interface
Some kind of midi keyboard
Midi Interface
Logic Pro

That would be ideal for me at the moment. Money is a bit of a problem at the moment though :(

Yeh

Im personally more of a PC that a Mac person but i have to admit there are some benifits to recording on a Mac.

I might get a second screen for my pc, make things easier editing wise.

Like the fact that Mac are 10x more reliable and have Logic :)

Please dont get into a PC vs Mac duel with me, i've had enough to last a life time and they really, really get on my nerves.

I've always used PC's since the age of about 4 and its what im used to.. and comfortable with.. thats the reason i use them.

I prefer PC to mac aswell in terms of usability because I'm used to them, but I know how to use Logic Pro best, that's the only reason I use mac.

Fair enough

im still experimeting with a few programs

I love audacitys simpleness..but its lack of features and it always messed up my sound for some reason which is why im looking at more pro solutions

The DAW in my studio is as follows:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 / 2.83 GHz
4gb DDRII Ram
Dual NVIDIA graphics cards
Mackie Firewire desk (24 track)
Cubase SX3

In my opinion, its necessary to have a good graphics card. I use 3 monitors in my DAW, coming from SLI graphics cards. Its good to have decent GFX, for the simple fact that I dont want any undesired artifacts on my screen while recording that could pester me. The 3 monitors (2x 19" tft and one 17" CRT) really help me to see where I'm going.

Ghetto ass computer! :P Just kidding.

Nothing wrong with the Toneport though. Good recording on a budget.

My ghetto PC - Windows XP, 1Gb RAM and a few video cards glued in somewhere, more viruses than the NHS service too
M-Audio Stealthplug (essentially a lead with a box on it)
Tracktion recording software

The stealthplug requires me to plug the speakers directly into that so I've wired up my Hi-Fi to it using a 1/4 inch jack to cassette thingy
Ghetto as hell
But with the amount of electricity going around that bundle of electronics, it boosts my phone signal beautifully
