I'm not a bassist, but anyone who plays guitar can play bass really. I use plecs when playing bass, but I guess that is because I am so much more used to them.

It really depends on the style you play, if your going to be playing soft or slow music or walking basslines etc, then finger picking is for you. But for rock or metal, you would really need a pick

You can use picks but bass picks are generally much thicker and larger, on account of the much thicker and spaced strings

not really.

the bassists in all three of my bands are all pretty competent with fingers.

they can play most things that guitarists can play with picks, with fingers.

ever tried the master of puppets intro on bass?

one my my friends can do that with fingers.

although, as a guitarist, i would have to say that i can only play very slowly with fingers on bass.

fingering, rather than picking, also gives much better tone, in my opinion.

far better tone? arguable, though admittedly most people prefer the rounded tone of fingers, unless with metal...Billy Sheehan and John Myung can shred with fingers, but if you're a guitarist it can take ages to work on using fingers when swapping with bass. I use both, hell, what about hybrid picking with them B)

I would say use fingers. all bassist I know use fingers. It's just what bassist do. unless you've been playing with a Pick for a long time, I would say use fingers. I play guitar, but when I pick up a bass, I use my fingers and play like Blister In The Sun or something.

To be honest (When I play) I prefer to use fingers. But, it completely depends on the song!

Thats true, but I would say most songs sound better with fingers.
