Hey, I know the seymours usually go into Mahogany bodied guitars but was wondering if people have tried the JB and the Jazz in basswood bodied RG's ? IF you have please tell me what the sound n tone is like. I know most basswood guitars lend better to dimarzios but im looking for more output and sustain whilst retaining the versatility of the RG's HSH pickup config. Any help n advice would be good. |

just out of curiosity why that combo? any pickup will work with any wood type with varying results. i've never heard that basswood and diMarzios are a better combo. the JB is a great pick up don't know if its the right one for you. what style do you play most? |

I thought of that combo cos seymour duncan do certain's pick up sets at decent prices. And the hot rod set has a Seymour Duncan JB and a Jazz and only costs £80 tho id need to buy a single coil for the middle position. I play a wide variety of music but mainly rock, alternative, metal, blues n stuff just want a good alround guitar n the RG is that but i want it to sound better n want to replace stock pickups as they are getting rusty n surely it must be affecting the sound somehow. |

actually SD recommends using the Jazz with the JB however that may not get you the results overall that you want. neither pickup is what i'd call metal friendly but will work. if you want a balanced sound you may want to consider SD or DiMarzio's PAF style pickups (i believe they both make a hot version of these which is what you'd want). |

I know i may not get the sound i want but when they recomend the pair together it mus be for a reason I guess. And i know what you mean by neither of them pickups being too metal but i dont really play much metal mainly grungy alternative stuff but i like to have good cleans too n clarity in sound is awlays good. MynameisDavid..... Do you have the SH6 in an ibanez? Is it good for clean tones too? cos i know they do a SH6 bridge n neck combo cheap too. |

I disagree here, I play some sickening heavy metal with a JB/Jazz combo In the end pickups make only a small amount of difference to your tone, your amp and how you use it makes up for about 90% of your tone |

sorry but if that were true we'd all sound the same if using the same equipment. alot of it is in you fingers and approach. no matter what i play thru i sound like me tone wise so i'm really inclined to believe that it is in the fingers an not so much the equipment. |
