Hi, I recently came into possession of a guitar made, allegedly, in the 1970s. It's not particularly impressive at the moment, it plays just like a beginner guitar, but I like to think the problem could be just general wear and tear, and that it might be resolved with something simple. As you can probably tell I'm not really in the know about these things at all. The only information I have is that it was made in Asia, it looks like a strat, and it says Hondo on the head. Is Hondo a good brand? Is anything salvagable from a Hondo that looks like a strat? Have you come across anything like this before? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. |

Hey most of them were a bit crap. However the ones with the logo in mother of pearl - not a sticker- were rather excellent. They were made in the Ibanez factory in Japan. Check out www.mrglyn.co.nz that's an archtop Hondo he's got there. I think there are more photos on his blog too. www.mrglynblog.com |

Hondo was the First Act of the the late 70s-80s. they are often made of plywood and weren't the best guitars around. they aren't that bad though. i had a les paul jr style model as my leave it on the chair and noodle whenever guitar in the late 80s and it played ok. they also made a few higher quality models including the Paul Dean (loverboy). the strat you have probably isn't one of the bertter ones but should be playable. use it as a spare. as with any guitar a good set up will improve its playability. i wouldn't bother with chageing pickups etc with it though. |
| and now for something completely different | |
