Hmmmm hard question. I own a Schecter and although they aren't really in the league of PRS, they play brilliantly and are extremely cheap for what they are! I have the C-1 Hellraiser FR.... check it out!

the short answer is no probably not. you can find many decent guitars that will play well and sound great for less though. there is a company that makes a PRS style guitar (Vineyard) that probably would fit the bill but you may have a really tough time getting ahold of one. the dealer here has been waiting for a new shipment for awhile now. i haven't played one yet but have their Strat-style guitar and it is unbelievable. your best bet is to go to a guitar store and try a few guitars out. at least you know kind of what you are looking for in terms of sound and feel. how much are you looking to spend?

you can get a PRS for that price. they just introduced a couple of more budget (for them) models recently. they are great guitars and i hope to get one one of these days.

sorry didn't say you could get a custom one those are high end. the single cut is a les paul style axe that goes for about $500 and they just put out a low end model that looks like the custom PRSs for about the same. there is also a Paul Alender Model that goes fro arrond $600. the custom 22 &24 are in the 2 grand neighborhood. you sai that you are new to playing so i'll give my don't spend a ton of cash until you know how to play speech. get a good guitar and spend a reasonable amount on an amp as well. no point in spending big bucks on a guitar andthen play thru a cheap crappy amp.
and now for something completely different
