Top Contributor Posts: 379 Group: Members Member #8,625 Joined: June 23, 2008	hi john what you want is something that will stay in tune reasonably well, play reasonably well and has acceptable pickups. unfortuneatly giving a absolute definition of those statements is tough. the under L100 guitars are going to have crappy everything that may function but not well. once you get into the range that Bullet is taking about then you should have a good beginner guitar. check Ibanez, Squire or Epiphone brands for decent beginner models. also save a few bucks for an amp.

Yamaha makes a full range of guitars at many price points (some go for way more than L250). always do your homework when buying a guitar to avoid paying to much and t know a great deal if you come across one.
