I'm feeling a little bored currently and a little restless so i thought i would just ask everyone what their favourite guitar playing styles are.... from some rythmic funk guitar to shreddin heavy metal solos?! what do you enjoy playing, or even listening to the most.

I play alot of nice finger picking smooth songs on my acoustic and with my newly acquired electric im red hot into my blues. The sound of a naughty stevie ray vaughan lick is just hard to beat in my eyes, or ears??

Anyone else?

i tend to play hard rock and metal. i'm a big gary moore fan so i play in different styles much as gary does. for the most part i play older 70s-early 80s type of stuff. i love shred and progressive metal but honestly can't really play like that. sure i can burn a lick with the best of them but i don't really do the sweep arperggios and things like that much. blues is cool to play as well and i do play some SRV and Rory Gallagher type material. I also love Hendrix and some of the guys that do his style stuff as well (robin trower, frank marino.) i don't play any death metal or the radically detuned stuff. a little metallica, megadeth or metal church on occasion is fun as well.
and now for something completely different

That pretty much covered it for me. I love how challenging metal is to play.... but it's also nice to have something with some rhythm to move around to! ;)

When it comes to rhythm, I love playing 80's Thrash Metal - paöm muted staccato playing, heavy and/or fast riffs, plenty of aggressiveness but also a touch of upbeat punkrock.

As for melodies/soloing, I prefer slower melodies with lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs and legato phrasing. I can't sweep at all, but I wouldn't use it much anyway. Shredding is nice, but I don't like doing it for too long. I would also love to master tapping/two-handed tapping.

I think I have a different style to many other metal guitarists because I'm mainly inspired by completely different music than mainstream music and/or band music.
