I own two Dunlop slides, one brass, one glass. Tonally, if I'm actually trying to play slide, I prefer the glass. If I'm making noise, doing some atmospheric stuff, the brass one is fun, because of the overtones it generates.

Interesting slide note.... ya know how everyone raves about getting an original Corocidin bottle, because Duane Allman used one? My dad's got an original, and a Dunlop reproduction, and there is absolutely NO difference in tone or feel.

I forgot to ask, do you play slide in standard tuning? I like to use goofy open tunings I make up, like CGCCGC, DDDAAD, or whatever I feel like using. I'll often retune while playing, too.

i usualy do open tunings or make them up like you. i did do standard at the begining but its just more fun doing it in open. my main open tunigns are the regular open G and C but also, on an acoustic its fun playing slide in drop D.

I play a lot of slide guitar. Usually in Open-G or Open-A. I have a ceramic one and a chrome one.

Slides....Don't you just LOVE em?

I have more slides lying around here than I know what to do with.
My Favourite for Acoustic Works is the Dunlop Ceramic Moonshine, Medium to Heavy Weight and beautifully balanced.

For Electric.....I have a very nice Very Heavy Brass one which is used for everything. I use Dropped D for Slide and find that the Brass Heavy Slide really Screams.

For those that can't find Corocidin Bottles.......As Invader Chris says...The Dunlop "Blues Bottle" does the job really well.

Tunings? As I said...Dropped D for Electric
Open D and G.....Or....Double Dropped D for Acoustics.

Cheers
Rob
"Drunk" is feeling sophisticated even though you can't say it!

To get a bluesy sound I prefer steel.

Brian May uses a glass (or technically Pyrex) one - so that's my choice.
