Allo allo,

It seems I have hit a creative wall, I havnt written anything I like for a while now that doesnt sound like something else ive written...does anyone have any favourite or obscure chords that I can experiment with?

Also I am learning to sweep properly...at the mo my sweeping is very basic and only over 3 strings...I am teaching myself so if anyone has any exercises, tips etc. they will be appreciated.

just a thought on the writting. try to do a song in a totally different style than what u usually write. for instance a country song. this will make you think in a different light and may get some creative juices flowing. i probably should learn to sweep myself but never bothered as i don't see it as an important part of my style.
and now for something completely different

Nice idea...I actually write a lot of accoustic finger picky stuff which translates really nicely into the style we play which helps. I was actually advised by someone to try listening to some country, pop and other genres to help me think outside of the metal box re. writing but I didnt know where to start, so I lost interest and did it this way....if anyone can suggest some non metal/rock artists I can listen to, I would be greatful.

Im not quite sure how I will get sweeping into my writing as we chose not to have big solos in songs (although we do have some pretty crazy lead parts), but its a technique I have always wanted to learn.

Btw. We are recording 2 of our songs tonight I will post them tomorrow for your opinions.

looking forward to the songs. as for non metal artists try Ian Hunter he writes great songs and had mick ronson on guitar until he died. Bastard is my fav hunter song. although they are considered metal try some of the stuff from the first 3 Blue Oyster Cult albums really strange songs and arrangements.
and now for something completely different
