I'm planning to sell some old guitar stuff and some some of that money to buy myself a new guitar to use mainly to practise at home and during rehearsals. I'll probably customize it quite a bit (as much as I can, over time) so I'm thinking a lower-priced guitar and replace strings, humbuckers, get Q-parts, maybe some paint job or something... I suppose I'll want the best wood and electronics that my budget can afford, but I think electronics are more important. Model doesn't matter much, but I'd prefer something that resembles a Les Paul or maybe a strat (the guitar should be comfortable to play with and relatively light-weight). I live in Sweden so I'd lie if I said the budget lies around $500 as that translates to about $250-$300 in the US (I paid ~$1150 for my Jackson, to give you a hint). But since 3000 SEK = 500 USD... |

hi metallon$ 250-300 won't get you much unless you get used. going from your Jackson to a cheap guitar may be tough. does it have to be a strat or LP style axe? perhaps a Jackson warrior would work. they are only $300 for the import version with (no whammy bar) i'm actually considering one that is used at one of the shops i go to. otherwise maybe an Ibanez as they aren't bad on the cheap end. ( i have a real cheapy that sits on a chair so i can just noodle on it watching tv) used would be your best bet as you can get a better guitar for your money. |

I think it's mainly about what I feel comfortable playing with. I'm not entirely sure what the prices are in the US, and it doesn't have to be a new guitar - used works, too. When I think about it, forget about weight and customization. I just feel that I need a good, orthodox guitar with versatility (my Jackson works GREAT for the music our band is playing, but not necessarily everything I play outside the band, and the Jackson was intended as a band investment anyway). I found an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus-Top used. It costs roughly 400 USD (2500 SEK), and I think they cost 4000 SEK in a guitar shop (roughly 650 USD). Just the color I want, too. I'll look into Ibanez guitars. I've played a few and they're cool, but not 100% sure they're my style. Apart from that, I've also looked into lower-end stuff from Dean, LTD and Jackson. |

low end Dean sucks. LTD isn't bad depending on what you get. the epi les paul sounded good. the higher end Squire guitars aren't bad if you want a strat. i have a Vineyard strat for the traditional guitar stuff myself. i'd recommend them but they are next to impossible to find. been waiting for my dealer to get the PRS style model in but no luck so far. |

I bought the Les Paul Standard but I'm going to sell it again. Why, you ask? Because today I minorly damaged an insignificant part of an ESP Ltd EC-400VF. That means I have to pay for the guitar. Now come and tell me this doesn't suck. The EC-400VF costs about $1400. And it comes with Seymour Duncans, not EMG's ![]() I feel really stupid x) |

There's a good guitar company called "Agile" That has a good like of cheap strats that great awesome reviews. Only thing is the pickups are a bit dull so that will have to be changed... Agile guitar site |

...this doesn't help me in the fact that my $500 practise guitar turned out to be an eclipse that costs almost three times the amount I had hoped to pay. |
