guitar building - floyd rose

ive recently undertaken a project to build a custom guitar for myself using an old guitar i had lying around. it was originally a strat style encore. im only using the body, and intend to find a jackson stlye pointy headstock. it had a bridge as shown in the attachment. i wanted to find out how easy it would be to set it up with a floyd rose double locking tremolo. im assuming it will involve a bit of routing or whatever on the body to make it fit. has anyone done a job like this before? is it something that can be done easily, or more of a specialist job?
thanks for any help.

Yes definitely possible! In fact it's fairly easy if you are good with routing. Of course you don't have to route the body if you don't want to, you could install a Floyd Rose II which will only go down (quite similar to what's already on a strat). If you want to go fully floating though, better get out that router :D

Also, another thing worth mentioning, make sure the neck has a locking nut fitted, and also check the dimensions, I believe a Jackson 24 fret neck will not fit on a strat body... though I'm not sure. Also, there might be tunning problems since that body was designed to have a 21/22 fret neck. Just check it will fit your bodies neck pocket.

great!
have you had any experience with the floyd rose 2? im assuming if its not fully floating i cant get the same kinda range out of it as i could from a floating one?

no it wouldn't have the same range as you can't pull up on it. also if the block is long you may only be able to go down so far with it before it hits the back. Bullet has a good point about the neck. although the body siize may not matter you will have to find a neck that will fit on the joint properly. you can make adjustments but if you screw it up the neck may not fit on tightly or straight.

one other consideration. the spacing between FR bridge saddles is different than the fender style ones you have now. this means that the strings won't go over the poles of a humbucker properly unless you have a pickup that is designed for a FR. a regular one will still work but you lose a little sound especially when bending strings.
and now for something completely different
