I often record something like this, then completely forget to go back and finish it :p Any comments welcome. Sorry about the poor recording.

Posts: 599 Group: Moderator Member #8,625 Joined: June 23, 2008	not bad. needs some work but the idea is solid. don't worry about the sound we all don't have a recording studio inthe bedroom. i just got a Zoom digital 8-track and will be learning to use it. once i do i'll post some of my stuff.
	and now for something completely different

Posts: 599 Group: Moderator Member #8,625 Joined: June 23, 2008	do what you're doing, if you get an idea get it down after a while you'll find a bunch of ideas and it may make you think hey idea 1 could be a chorus and idea 5 could be the main riff etc. this is how i do it. it is tough to just sit down and say hmm.. i think i'll write a classic for the ages today. as far as structure goes listen to some of you fav songs for structure and start to think about why they may have put it together that way. this will get you to think in terms of structure and flow. it doesn't hurt to try to put together a song using the same structure as one of your favs for practice. remember its a process and requires some practice like anything else. also to begin with keep it simple. many of the best songs have a simple but catchy riff, chorus etc. if you try to write say in the DRAGONFORCE style you probably won't get anywhere. one more thing remeber that songs have words and shouldn't be so busy guitar wise that there are no room for them. when i play just the music for a song people say well... its kind of repititious etc but when the wrds are added hey thats pretty good. yeah when i get some decent tracks laid on my Zoom i'll post them.
