Hi

As something of a newbie to guitars I bought myself a Starcaster. I must admit I have really enjoyed playing it, it suits me and sounds good to me. I like the idea of getting an American Stratocaster in the forseeable future though. Can you tell me what are the real differences betwen the two guitars?

Regards

Rob

about $900 :P . aside from that well about everything but the shape. the starcaster is fenders absolute bottom of the line sell it in places like Best Buy guitar. an american strat may be a bit of jump for you at this point (expensiveyou're talking $1000 here in the states). a good squire (the next step up) strat or a mexican made fender might be a good next step. the difference will be things like quality woods, pickups and hardware. believe me you'll be able to tell the difference. in the mean time enjoy playing as a beginner you don't need a top of the line guitar yet.
and now for something completely different

I have to say though, the Mexican strats are gorgeous. To be honest, I think the price difference between the MIA and MIM strats is not justifiable. Although, credibility for having an MIA is much higher, of course.

well, all i can say is any strat sounds sweet.
but it is true, the more you pay for a strat, the better it sounds,
but also, i have an early 80's mia strat and my newest guitar
strat custom shop classic, and the new geetar is just a lot more comfortable.
the feel of it, the light alder body, nice 'C' shape neck that fits perfect with your hand.

So at the moment i would recommend you get the mim strat
and in the future go for a fender custom shop and you will know what i mean
