Hi all, I'm planning on completely re-wiring an old clapped out electric gutar that i bought from a boot fair for £4, I'm gonna keep the pickups (2 Dimarzio humbuckers, I hope they still work!) and replace everything else, problem is my knowledge of electronic bits is a little limited... To add to my woes, it has been modified at some point and now has 3 extra switches adorning the front, all connected to the bridge pickup. Ive seen bits n bobs on the net about phase reversal / coil cut / series-parallel switching so assume thats what they're for, but this is all a bit overwhelming for me. The guitar is a les paul style, so usual les paul setup, plus space for these damn 3 switches... I guess firstly I want to see is what anyone here would recommend as a good modified setup? What are the advantages of the different modifications? Is it really worth all the extra effort, or should I just live with 3 ugly holes? So, please leave a comment, let me know what you think, offer your aid (with diagrams and idiots guide would be nice!) or just say "you havent got a hope in hell". Yours in anticipation, Tim. (Please pity me, I just spent 2 hours typing this post as my laptop keeps crashing because its s**t) |

any mods should either help you get a better sound or make something easier to do (ie make swithcing pickups faster or changing tuning a one step process etc.). its pretty much up to you on how you want to impove your guitars performence. now i gotta ask is the guitar worth all the trouble? if its a real cheapo then you may be better off just getting a better guitar and then maybe swapping out the pickups for the diMarzios you have. as far as the holes where the switchs are maybe you can leave them in but disconnected or at least use 2 of them for pickup kill switches. this is an on off switch for each pick up. it can be a convenience at times to have. |
| and now for something completely different | |
