Hi,

I've just decided, at the ripe age of 46, that I am going to try and learn to play the riffs that I've been listening to for the last 30 or 40 years. I'm planning to buy a left-handed entry-level Squier Fender Strat, with suitable amp, and see if I can teach myself.

If anyone has any tips for a fat, balding rocker, bring 'em on!

Thanks for the welcome. I've got plenty of research to do before I make my final pick, but I'm thinking along the lines of the Squier Standard Strat. A local music store has a left-handed one in store at £220

not a bad choice but give the playing right handed idea some thought as well. i started leftie way back when (of course leftie axes were few and far between) and it was tough. switched to right and found it was so much easier. fretting with your good hand is easier and getting the right to do the picking wasn't hard. just a thought

Thanks for the tip. I'm visiting the shop again tomorrow for some more advice, so will sound out the idea. I'll also ask about potential for trading back, just in case it doesn't work out.
