Talkboxes

Hi, I'm new here so please bear with me. If I ask anything which has already been answered, please hold no grudges and I would be greatful if you could direct me to the topic.

Ok, so I've been playing guitar for about 11 years now and I've decided it's about time I got a talkbox. But my problem is that I only have a line 6 spider 2 combo amp and a very limited budget. I've been researching talkboxes for quite a while and I've not come across one which can be used with my amplifier's built in effects.

I'd love to add the versatility of the talkbox to my sound but I'd want the effect to be "added" to my sounds from my amp.

So my question is this, does anybody know of any talkboxes that don't need dozens of stomp boxes to acheive the effects, like reverb or delay, but take them from the amplifier instead?

Sorry if it's hard to understand, just let me know and I'll try to explain a bit better.

Thanks for any help

Right, I've just found my Dad's speakers for his P.A system so he'll let me hook my amp up to those, this'll allow me to use the Heil Talkbox.

But I've just got one question fo anyone electrically minded, on the line 6 website it says the Spider 2 delivers 75 Watts of power to the speaker. The Heil says it can cope with 100 Watts max. or 50 Watts RMS.

Is the 75 Watts my amp delivers the RMS value or is it the max. value?

In other words will my amp overpower the talkbox?

Thanks

Not only will the guitar sound crap when DI'd through PA speakers, if you crank your amp, it may definitly blow the speaker.

Thanks for all your help so far, just one more question.

If I wanted to modify my amp so it was more like a sort of all-in-one cabinet what sort of thing would I have to do?

I've got a way of doing it that works in my simple theoretical knowledge of electronics but I don't know if there's anything missing. It basically involves cutting the wires going from the amp head to the speaker and inserting two 1/4" jack sockets. This way it should act like a seperate speaker and amp head without having to buy an extra cabinet speaker.

Here's a diagram of my idea:

Of course, it would work. Just make sure that they are Mono jacks you use, and not Stereo.

I modded my amp this weekend, went and bought the mono jack sockets and found some old aluminium (or at least I think they're aluminium) brackets that I drilled holes in and attached to the top of my amp.

Then, making sure to connect the right wires to the right connectors, I soldered it all together and put a patch lead in the sockets for when I don't have the talkbox in my rig.

Here's some pictures of the result, doesn't look that good but it's at the back of the amp so nobody's ever goin to see it.

I also bought some speaker cable and made two leads, each about 5ft long, to go to and from the talkbox. To do this I just cut one long piece of cable in half and soldered a jack plug onto each end.

Thanks for all your help, once I get the talkbox I'll take a few more pictures and post them up here.
